iPhone 3GS Speculations (10th smartphone in my collection)

This holiday season, I’ll be getting a very special piece of tech from my 4th-grade teacher, Mr. Harvey: an iPhone 3GS. Released in 2009, this phone is a fascinating reminder of how far smartphones have come.

The iPhone 3GS was the third iPhone Apple released, and it stood out for its improved performance. The “S” in its name stood for “speed.” Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 3G, it was much faster, with a new processor that made everything from loading apps to browsing the web feel snappier.

It also introduced some firsts for iPhones:

  • Video Recording: The iPhone 3GS was the first iPhone to let you record videos, a big deal at the time.
  • Voice Control: Long before Siri, this phone had basic voice commands to play music or make calls.
  • Better Camera: It's 3-megapixel camera could take clearer photos and focus on objects just by tapping the screen.

Design-wise, the 3GS had a curved plastic back, which came in black or white. It felt smooth and solid in your hand. The screen wasn’t as sharp as today’s, but it was one of the best back then.

Today, the iPhone 3GS might not run modern apps or handle the latest games, but it’s still an incredible piece of tech history. Holding one feels like stepping into a time machine to see how smartphones began.

When I get mine, I plan to explore what still works and see how it compares to the phones we use today. It’ll be like owning a piece of 2009 in my pocket!

Vivo Y300 and Samsung Galaxy A36 rumored specs

The Vivo Y300 offers solid features aimed at budget-conscious users, including a 6.67-inch HD+ display and a MediaTek Helio G35 processor. It comes equipped with 8 to 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, providing enough space for apps and photos. For cameras, it includes a 50MP main rear camera and a 32MP front-facing camera, which are fairly basic but functional for everyday photography. The Y300 is also expected to ship with Vivo's FunTouch OS based on Android 14, giving users an intuitive experience with standard Android features at an affordable price.

The Samsung Galaxy A36, expected in early 2025, promises a number of upgrades and is positioned as a competitive mid-range option. It will likely feature a 6.5-inch FHD+ display and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, offering faster performance and better multitasking capabilities. This extended support is rare for mid-range devices, enhancing its longevity for users. The Galaxy A36 will retain a 50MP main camera but introduce a new 12MP front camera, which could improve selfie quality. Although Samsung isn’t expected to make significant changes to battery size or display technology, the A36’s refined design and long-term software support might make it a preferred choice over similarly priced options. In summary, the Vivo Y300 focuses on affordability and simplicity, while the Samsung Galaxy A36 offers more longevity and power, along with enhanced camera capabilities and extended software updates. If budget is key, the Y300 might fit well; however, for those wanting extended use and reliable performance over several years, the A36 could be worth the investment.

The outstanding security on this phone makes it feel like a spy's phone!
It also looks like it can survive a grenade that was thrown right next to it!
Lastly, this "military-like" phone was coincidentally released on Veterans Day!

The Motorola ThinkPhone 25 has been designed for business professionals who prioritize security, durability, and seamless integration with other devices. Built with a 6.36-inch pOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, the ThinkPhone 25 combines robustness with a premium look, thanks to its Aramid fiber-reinforced body that meets military durability standards.

Inside, it’s powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 processor, offering reliable, efficient performance. Paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, the ThinkPhone 25 is equipped for multitasking and handling large work files. It also promises five years of Android OS and security updates, providing long-term value for professionals.

Security features are a key aspect, with ThinkShield and Moto Secure tools offering data protection through two-factor authentication, a secure storage folder, and remote provisioning options. Oppo A5 Pro Rumored Specs

The Oppo A5 Pro is an affordable option in the mid-range smartphone category, with a large 6.5-inch display, durable battery, and quad-camera setup, making it a solid choice for budget-conscious users.

The phone’s design stands out with its glossy plastic back and curved edges, available in Dazzling White and Mirror Black. Its 6.5-inch screen provides a spacious viewing experience, though its 720p resolution is lower than some competitors, which can impact the sharpness of details. The display brightness adapts well to lighting conditions, making it a decent choice for watching videos and browsing, though it isn’t as vibrant as AMOLED displays often found on more expensive devices.

The Oppo A5 Pro’s performance is powered by a Snapdragon 665 processor and typically includes 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, expandable up to 256GB via microSD. This configuration allows for smooth operation in daily tasks, though it may show limitations with intensive gaming. The phone operates on ColorOS based on Android 9, offering a clean, user-friendly interface.

One of the most notable features of the Oppo A5 Pro is its battery. Its 5000mAh battery can last up to two days on a full charge, a rarity at this price range. However, the phone lacks fast charging, so powering it up from low levels can be time-consuming.

In terms of photography, the Oppo A5 Pro includes a 12MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and two 2MP lenses for depth and artistic effects. While it captures decent shots in good lighting, low-light performance is limited, and its night mode doesn’t always improve image quality noticeably. For casual users, the camera setup is sufficient, but serious photographers may find it lacking.

Overall, the Oppo A5 Pro offers good value for its price, with strong battery life, a large screen, and a versatile camera setup, though it doesn’t excel in speed or screen resolution. It's a practical pick for users who prioritize affordability and battery life over high-end performance.
